COMMERCIAL ARCHITECTURE

The site is located in the commercial heart of Rajkot city, in proximity to the central bus station, a lot of hospitals and small- and large-scale other businesses, along with some residential areas. It is a linear stretch of land with 2 sides facing major commercial roads and one side facing an internal street. The major constraint was to deal with the extreme linearity of the plot where the length of the plot is six time its width, situated in thick and dense urban fabric. All the four sides of the site responded to different context. Open to sky space and lift etc. were placed towards the adjoining property side to ensure good light and ventilation, and considering the commercial aspect the two main road facing sides and one internal road facing side were designed so that each office faces one of the road sides and were bound together by common movement areas, which ensures integrity in the building though responding to different contextual parameters. The modern form of the building was developed to enhance the natural linearity and horizontality of the site. The minimal elements and clarity of lines lets the viewer experience the humble yet strong and structured building.
